This post is all about 4 amazing video editors for Instagram Reels you must try in 2022!
Instagram Reels have become a popular alternative to TikTok videos. And with the latest announcement from Instagram head – it is now clear: Reels are here to stay.
The CEO made the announcement that Instagram is moving swiftly towards becoming a “short, fun and entertaining” video-sharing platform.
As a content marketer, now it’s the best time to step up your video editing game and learn how to create Instagram Reels videos.
If this sounds scary? Don’t worry, it’s not that hard.
All you need is a mobile phone and a good video editing app.
In this article, I’ve summarised my favorite *and most amazing* video editors that you can use to make Reels videos.
Best Video Editors for Instagram Reels
Before I share with you my favorite apps for editing Reels, here are some FAQs:
1. What are Instagram Reels?
Reels are short-form vertical videos that you can post on Instagram.
Yes, they are very similar to the content on TikTok. Very similar.
2. What are the benefits of posting Instagram Reels?
Every time Instagram launches a new feature (eg. Reels, Livestream, Guides) they boost it in the algorithm. So if you post more Reels you’re riding the wave of extra reach vs all other content types. Will this always be so? Probably not. But until Instagram launches a new content format, Reels will still be the best form of content to get maximum reach (of course, excluding paid ads).
3. How to Record Instagram Reels?
There are two ways to create Reels.
a. The first way is to record a video using the Instagram Reels feature.
This option doesn’t need an external app, as you can find the music, camera and text features on Instagram itself. The downside? The music library is very restricted. Some countries don’t even have access to any songs – except original tunes. It’s also more difficult to edit a video on Instagram as sometimes, the apps crashes and videos don’t get saved.
b. The second option is to edit a vertical video in a 3rd party app
There are many video editing apps on the market that offer way better features than Instagram Reels native editing tool. Below, I am sharing my favorite tried & tested tools.
4. Can you schedule Instagram Reels in advance?
Yes, you can! I use Pallyy to plan my Instagram content and that includes Instagram Reels. However, the app doesn’t post directly. So you’ll get a notification (together with the video & the caption you saved) when it’s time to post.

2. TikTok Editor (FREE) – works on both Inphone and Android
TikTok is the sensation that inspired Instagram to launch the Reels in the first place.
But not many know that TikTok is a complete video editing tool.
That means you can edit videos on TikTok and share them on Instagram as Reels.
TikTok comes with a wide range of filters, AR effects and a custom (FREE) music library with millions of popular songs and most viral sounds.
I also like using TikTok to find trending content and inspiration for Instagram Reels.
TikTok Editor Features:
- Record short videos (15 sec -60 sec)
- Edit videos (trim, cut, merge duplicate clips)
- Add free music and sound effects
- Discover popular and trending content
- Add filters, stickers, effects, AR objects to videos
- Download videos
- Share videos on Instagram, Facebook, chat
Rating 4/5 – fast and complete video editor but it downloads videos with the trademark.
To download videos without the TikTok logo you need to go to a 3rd party link and do a conversion.
Other than that, the app is super intuitive and easy to use.
TikTok is available on both IOS and Android devices.

4. Adobe Premiere Rush (FREE and Paid)
Adobe Rush is one of the first video editors I started using.
It comes with a free trial and is a scaled-down version of Adobe Premiere Pro, which a lot of YouTubers use to edit videos. The software allows you to edit videos of various formats (including Reels) and can be accessed on multiple devices (eg, phone, iPad, laptop). So it’s perfect for editing videos on the go.
Adobe Rush is great for beginners who want to transition to a professional video editing software like Premiere Pro in the future.
The app is easy to use and has some of my favourite in-built fonts and text effects.
Adobe Premiere Rush Features:
- Easy editing and effects
- Built-in camera for recording videos
- Adjust speed, trim, crop, mirror and flip videos
- Add images, overlays and stickers
- Drag and drop feature
- Animated titles
- Royalty-free soundtracks
- Share your videos to Facebook, Instagram or TikTok
- Upgrade to PRO access additional premium features (titles, overlays, graphics)
- 4k video export
Overall rating: 5/5 – best Instagram Reels video editor for editing on the go and across multiple devices
